The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in the Mourning family. Trey Mourning, the oldest child of former NBA play Alonzo Mourning, will take his incredible basketball skills to Georgetown University this fall.
The teen announced his plans to attend the prestigious university a few days ago. “There is a lot of pressure that goes with carrying that name here,” said Georgetown coach Claude Grubair on Saturday (May 3). “But Trey has handled it with incredible dignity and grace. That is how he does everything.”
Trey has been turning heads with his impeccable skill. The high school senior averaged 29 points and 10 rebounds last season, and managed to lead his team to the finals. Trey set his school’s single-game scoring record last year by contributing 52 points during a 94-65 victory over La Salle high. During that game, the teen managed to rack up 22 rebounds and 10 blocks. Trey has been named player of the year by Florida’s Dade and Boward counties since beginning his trails in basketball several years ago.
Alonzo Mourning enjoyed a 15-year NBA career before retiring in 2009. He played for the Miami ‘Heat’ for the majority of his years, and now serves as Vice President of Player Programs and Development for the team.
Trey is Alonzo and wife Tracy’s oldest son. The couple have three kids in all.
