KYM WHITLEY AND SON STOP BY THE WHITE HOUSE’S EASTER EGG ROLL

Kym Whitley and her son Joshua were two of many to join the President and First Lady for the White House’s annual Easter Day celebration this past Sunday (April 20). The mother and her son were definitely dressed to impress, with Joshua wearing a white shirt with slacks and Kym sporting blue and black “mommy wear.”

Whitley has turned out to be quite the soft parent, as she explains to Mom that Joshua pretty much gets what he wants around the house. “I said, ‘He’s not going to be spoiled.’ He woke up last night, it was like midnight, and he was like, ‘Juice?’ I was like, ‘Oh, I would never give him juice at night.’ I gave him a little juice and little water. He was like, ‘Can I watch TV?’ I was like, ‘No.’ He goes, ‘Just a little bit?’ [And I said,] ‘Oh, OK.’ I’m the worst!”

Although she enjoys being a mom to Josh, Kym would never deprive her son of the opportunity to know his birth mother. “Since I used to mentor her, of course I know her, and Joshua will meet her when the time is right,” says the star. “But I want him to know that he wasn’t abandoned. That his mother loved him enough to make sure that he had a better life. That she gave him to someone that pretty much was raising her. That’s what I want him to know—that he’s loved.”

Kym Whitley adopted Joshua in 2011, after being submitted to Child Protective Services as a possible guardian by the little one’s birth mother. You can catch Kym and Josh in all of their humor on their reality show,’ Raising Whitley,’ which airs weekly on OWN.
