LL Cool J and the family attended the 11th Annnual John Varvatos Stuart House Benefit in Los Angeles, California this past Sunday (April 13). The Hip Hop legend and his family took a pause for the cause to show their support of the event on the red carpet.
LL was one of many celebrities to raise funds for abused children at Sunday’s event. The artist contributed upwards of $7,000 to the benefit in exchange for a guitar that was signed by Red Hot Chilli Peppers. “I’m happy to contribute,” said Mr. Cool J. “I would have given the money for nothing … As a child growing up I experienced abuse in my life on certain levels and this is something that is near and dear to my heart.”
The Stuart House Benefit was birthed in 2002, after John Varvatos visited the Santa Monica Rape Treatment Center. While interacting with the children and staff, John realized that it was necessary for more men to support kids who have been sexually abused. “It is a cause that needs greater awareness,” said the entrepreneur. “We all have children we are connected with and we want to protect them.”
In trying to protect kids and spread awareness about abuse, Varvatos held his first Stuart House Benefit in his West Hollywood store. The star, with the help of other celebrities, has since raised more than $3 million for kids in need.
LL Cool J has four kids with his wife, Simone Smith. The star is currently under review for inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
