Arsenio Hall answered a lot of questions that had been lingering in the hearts and minds of his fans during his talk on Oprah’s ‘Next Chapter.’ The talk show host discussed everything from guests he had on his show over a decade ago to his departure from the air in 1994. Arsenio did not hold back when he talked about the joys of fatherhood with Oprah and even got a bit emotional during the conversation.
“Me and my girl wanted a kid,” said Hall of his and ex-girlfriend Cheryl Bonacci’s plans for parenthood. “And that’s so important to me — to always be able to look in my son’s eyes and say, ‘You weren’t a mistake. You weren’t a surprise. I wanted you. I wanted you like my dad wanted me.'”
Although his love for fatherhood trumps show business, Arsenio told Oprah that it was important for him to get back to work. “There were some things [my son] wasn’t seeing,” explained the television personality. “I was a latch-key kid….She worked a lot…she got me to where I am. I respect womanhood and motherhood so much more. [But] I was stubborn and determined to do this.”
Hall and Bonacci have one child together. The ‘Arsenio Hall Show’ airs weeknights on CBS.
