Smokie Norful brought the house down with his family by his side at the 2013 BET Celebration of Gospel on March 16, 2013. The Grammy Award winning artist brought his youngest son Ashton onstage as he sang the lyrics to his most popular songs. Norful gained much recognition as a recording artist in 2002 after his ‘I Need You Now’ single became a hit.
Several artists joined Smokie onstage, singing their greatest hits while inspiring attendees. Shirley Caesar, Donnie McClurkin, and Karen Clark Sheard were three among many to perform at the celebration show. Viola Davis also made an appearance onstage to support her fellow entertainers.
This year’s Celebration of Gospel was hosted by Steve Harvey, and will air on BET’s network during the month of April. Smokie Norful and wife Carla parent three kids-Ashton, Tre, and Ashley-together.
