Laila Ali is taking her message of healthy living to the world. The former boxer recently visited the kids at Al Bateen Secondary School in Abu Dhabi to encourage them to adopt good fitness habits through discussions about her diet and exercise practices as a mom and former athlete.
“For women, it’s especially important to provide healthy food options and meals, as we’re the backbone of the family,” said Ali to the press before her speaking engagement. “I’m a believer in what you do 90 per cent of the time is what matters. For example, when it comes to treats, I can’t really deny my kids some of the things I enjoyed as a child but I prefer to choose wholesome, healthy snacks for them and buy from food companies I trust.”
Laila also told media about her workout schedule, which includes a bit of Pilates and weight training. “I like to mix things up these days with Pilates and weight training. A variety of exercise is important, especially with having small kids. And I don’t really box anymore. I might hit the heavy bag in my gym but my regimen is nowhere near as intense as it was before,” explained the former athlete.
Laila and husband Curtis Conway have two children-Curtis Jr. and Sydney-together. The couple parents five kids in all.
