Michael Strahan was one to think twice and be meticulous about the words that came out of his mouth during his divorce from Jean Muggli in 2007. Although tempted at times to assassinate his then-estranged wife’s character, Michael held his peace for the sake of daughters Isabella and Sophia. The former NFL talked about his divorce experience that quickly became the talk of tabloids with the New York Times.
“It was horrible, of course, but at the same time it was one of the best things to ever happen to me,” said the former athlete. “You have all these things being said about you, things that aren’t true, but you can’t control any of it. At first I was freaking out, but then I just realized: the only thing I can be is me.”
In being himself, Strahan let his fatherly characteristics shine through in protecting Isabella and Sophia from future hurt. The NFL star refrained from saying anything negative about Jean as he explained to the New York Times, “I had my girls, my twins, and I was only worried about not saying something that one day they’d see in a newspaper and say, ‘Daddy, why did you say this about Mommy.'”
Michael and Jean wed in 1999. They experienced the joy of welcoming their twin daughters into the world in 2004 before divorcing three years later. Strahan has four kids in all.
