Five months ago filmmaker Nirvan Mullick stumbled upon nine-year-old Caine Monroy’s cardboard arcade, self-constructed in his father’s auto parts store in West L.A.  Nirvan was Caine’s first customer and he was so captivated by the creativity in Caine’s arcade he decided to make a video about it. Watch video here.

That video became a viral sensation, getting millions of hits, attracting global media attention, attracting new customers from around the world (Jack Black even brought his kids!) and surpassing the $25,000 Nirvan hoped to raise for Caine’s college education by hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The inspiration, and realization that “a small gesture can change the life of a child,” led Nirvan to found the Imagination Foundation “to find, foster and fund creativity and entrepreneurship in kids like Caine.” It also gave birth to a Cardboard Challenge culminating in a Global Day of Play on Oct 6th.
