HOLLY ROBINSON-PEETE ASKS HERSELF, “SHOULD I LET MY SON PLAY FOOTBALL?”

Actress Holly Robinson-Peete has qualms about her children playing football despite being a big fan of the sport and being married to former NFL player Rodney Peete. “It’s a major point of contention between Rodney and I. But the information out there is scary. As a mom and a football fan, I’m at a crossroads. I don’t want to be one of these moms that if you have a talented kid, you deprive of the opportunities that football brings them,” Peete tells ESPN.

The Peete’s 10-year-old son Robinson is one of those talented football players. Holly has allowed her son to play in past times, but this year, she convinced Robinson to play another sport(baseball) after seeing Tulane player Devon Walker’s devastating injury take place on the field.

“It was so intense,” says Holly. “It was again another reminder that we have to pay attention to these dangers. Eighty-five to 90 percent of the moms in my circle that have sons are digging their heels in and saying, ‘I’m not going to let them do it.'”

Recent studies have shown that NFL players are three times more likely to die from Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease compared with the general population of people who will never be diagnosed with the illnesses. Rodney Peete Sr. served as an NFL quarterback for 14 years before deciding to retire and Holly has often given support to the NFL as a number one fan.

Holly and Rod have four children together.
