Lauryn Hill performed with her children onstage at the Highline Ballroom in New York City this past weekend. Hill was joined by four of her children(and a relative) who each had an opportunity to show off their musical talents. At one point during the segment, Lauryn’s son John forgot a few of the words and began to cry. His other siblings, however, offered enough support to help him overcome stage fright. Hill’s baby girl also performed, receiving much applause from the crowd.
Lauryn told fans at the Highline that she had never abandoned them. “No what matter people said, I didn’t abandon you. I was always on my way back. It’s been a struggle. We are pushing through. People forget how young I was when I started… I just needed time,” the singer said.
Hill has received 30 awards throughout her musical career that flourished in 1998 with the release of ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.’ The R&B singer is mother to six children in all.
