The National Father’s Day/Mother’s Day Council will honor Shaquille O’Neal as a father of the year. The announcement comes after O’Neal hosted the Cartoon Network Hall of Game Awards with his kids present on Saturday, February 18, 2012.
Although Shaq works tirelessly to be the good dad that he is, the All-Star’s charity work caught the eye of the Council this year. As Look To the Stars explains, “The Miami Heat All-Star center frequently donates time and money to charitable causes, including $1 million to the Boys and Girls Club of America to create technology centers in Clubs nationwide, in partnership with Microsoft Corporation.” O’Neal has supported four charities and teaches his children the importance of giving back. For this reason the National Father’s Day/Mother’s Day Council has saw fit to honor the basketball player at the 71st Father of the Year Awards ceremony.
The festivities are scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the Sheraton New York Hotel. O’Neal is one of three dads to be recognized at the event for excellence in fatherhood. Shaq is father to five children.
