Singers Brandy Norwood and Monica Brown have a lot in common. Aside from being famed artists of their time, the R&B vocalists are proud mothers of children who want to follow in their footsteps.
In a recent interview with People magazine, Brandy said that 9-year-old daughter Sy’rai possesses the talent and drive to be the next great singer. Brandy, however, is not ready to let that happen. As the singer explains, “She’s [Sy’rai] into her school work and her education but singing is all she does, watching videos and making up routines. I’m seeing the signs, but I want her to hold on a little longer and have a regular childhood.”
Although not vocally inclined like his mother, Monica’s eldest son Rodney,6, plans to make his mark in the music industry. Brown states, “Rodney is a drummer. He is only 6½ and is in the third grade. He wants to go to college like [my husband] Shannon and he’s serious about musical intent — he plays his drums daily and asks for lessons. He asked me, ‘Can you call Travis Barker and have him come give me drum lessons?'”
When asked about their newest duet “It All Belongs to Me” Monica said, “We had to get here as people first before we could do anything musically [again] and be the artists that we are, the mothers that we are.” Brandy’s response? “We are ready to sing!”
Both Norwood and Brown have albums set to debut this year. Both artists also anticipate having more children in the future.
