Gabrielle Douglas is a 15-year-old gymnast training for the US Olympic team. Although currently a member of Team USA, Gabrielle aspires to represent her country in the Olympics like her role model, Dominique Dawes.

Douglas has already captured several victories, placing seventh in the 2011 US VISA National Championships and helping her team grasp the gold medal at the City of Jesolo Trophy in Italy. Gabrielle also helped Team USA win the gold medal at the 2011 USA World Championship this past October in Tokyo, Japan.

A growing success, Douglas’ journey to triumph began at the tender age of four when she taught herself how to cartwheel with one hand. Since then, the young gymnast has entered numerous competitions and been successful. In 2008 alone Douglas qualified as a Junior International Elite athlete, and won the silver medal on the balance beam at the Region VII Championships.

Gabrielle hopes that her success as a gymnast will serve as inspiration to other African American girls.
