Six months after giving birth to twins, Mariah Carey is 70 pounds lighter. Although the singer experienced a difficult pregnancy that led to excess water gain, Carey has managed to return to a comfortable body mass through strict dieting and exercise.
Whereas many women become content with their body after giving birth, Mariah was not happy with her physical state. As the singer explains, “it was a huge blessing to be able to have the babies…But I felt trapped in my body because I couldn’t move.” Not only did the additional pounds affect her self-esteem, but the extra weight also prevented Carey from providing the best care for her twins. Fully aware of her health condition, Mariah decided to go on a strict diet and workout plan.
Although many believe that exercise is key in weight loss, Carey was unable to undergo strenuous workouts immediately following her pregnancy due to a Cesarean section. As Mariah notes, “the diet is 90 percent of it.” While exercise is important, Carey attributes most of her success to a 1500 calorie diet by Jenny Craig. Instead of indulging in rich foods, Mariah eats a lot of soup and salad.
Her story is a true testimony that other moms can lose weight even after a difficult pregnancy.
