“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Astro Monte Thornton, beloved son of Mona and De’Mario ‘Raz B’ Thornton of the R&B supergroup B2K. The family asks for privacy as they navigate this difficult time. They truly appreciate your love and support.”

A cause of death was not revealed.

Raz and Monali welcomed Astro in May, less than a year after the birth of their son, Versai Carter Thornton, on October 10, 2024. Monali is also mom to an older daughter from a previous relationship.

In the days leading up to Astro’s birth, Raz shared his excitement about adding another baby boy to the family. Posting from the hospital, he wrote, “Right now we’re at the hospital getting ready to welcome our newest addition, Astro, another baby boy to the Thornton family.”

The B2K singer also shared a family portrait featuring Monali and their children in coordinating white tops and denim. For Raz, the photo represented something he had wanted for a long time.

“I always wanted to take a real family picture with my own family… and finally, God made a way,” he wrote.

As Monali prepared to give birth, Raz praised her strength throughout the pregnancy.

“Big congratulations to my beautiful wife for being so strong through this journey. Watching you become a mother again is one of the greatest blessings I could ever witness.”

Just weeks after Astro’s arrival, Monali celebrated Raz on Father’s Day with a message about the role he played in their family.

“Living in the moment so this is a day late. We Thank you for all you do! Thank you for your love, commitment and generosity for us and those you care for. Thank you for protecting us, being our safest place and our forever hero! We hope you enjoyed your Father’s Day ‘Dada.’”
