A$AP Rocky is opening up about fatherhood and the lessons he’s learned while raising his three children with Rihanna.
During a recent conversation with Jason Lee, the rapper reflected on the differences between parenting his sons, RZA and Riot, and daughter, Rocky.
“Look, RZA was my first. So by the time Riot was born, I had already learned, but I naturally loved both of them equally. The thing was, it was like big brother, little brother,” he said.
“By the time Rocky came, it was like, ‘Oh, snap. This is different because this is a girl, so you got to handle her a little differently.’ You know what I mean? I’m really sensitive with my kids and really gentle with them. But like with her, I was ultra gentle. She turned out being the toughest, more than her brothers,” Rocky continued.
Although he said he is extra gentle with his daughter, Rocky said she has become the toughest of his three children.
“She’ll grab your nose, squeeze it, take my braids, yank them. I’ll be like, ‘Damn, girl. Why you beating up Daddy for?'” he said.
The rapper emphasized that he doesn’t play favorites and said each of his children brings something different to his life.
“I’m a present dad. I don’t favoritize any of them. They all have such different personalities that you love each of them for what it’s worth,” Rocky said.
Jason Lee also praised Rocky and Rihanna for remaining hands-on parents despite their demanding careers. He noted that the couple still takes their children to school and handles everyday parenting responsibilities.
Rocky agreed that they are hands-on, but have a lot of help.
“So it’s our mothers, our nannies. It’s a lot of help. Bro, I’d be lying if I told you we don’t got help. We got a lot of help,” he said.
He also acknowledged that not every parent has that same level of support.
“You need that. Some people, unfortunately, don’t have that kind of help or support. Some are single mothers, and I commend them. I commend those mothers because I know, as a present dad, how much I want the best for my kids and want to be there,” he said.
“But I’m a hardworking man. When I’m not at home, I just need to know that my kids are being looked after and loved,” he added.
