As anticipation builds for Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3, one question has been trending online: Does Annabeth Chase die?
Based on The Titan’s Curse, the book adapted for Season 3, the short answer is no.
In Season 3, Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) doesn’t die but disappears during a dangerous mission, sending Percy (Walker Scobell) on a quest to find her.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Scobell said Annabeth’s disappearance is just one example of how the upcoming season raises the stakes.
“It’s definitely our darkest season yet,” Scobell told the outlet in a recent interview. “When you’re reading the books, the first one gets you into it, and then The Titan’s Curse is when it really hooks into the meat of the story.”
The actor also revealed that the season opens with a small time jump following Thalia’s (Tamara Smart) return at the end of Season 2. Percy and Thalia quickly clash as they adjust to working together.
“It’s difficult because I think Percy and Thalia are so similar,” Scobell said. “They fill that same area, so they’re constantly fighting.”
Percy’s latest quest takes him across several locations, including the Garden of the Hesperides, the Junkyard of the Gods, the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, and the Hoover Dam.
Along the way, Percy, Grover, Thalia, Zoë Nightshade, and Bianca Di Angelo face creatures including the manticore, the Nemean lion, and the giant automaton Talos.
Those encounters also showcase how much Percy has grown as a fighter.
“This time, I’m not just totally getting thrown around, I’m fighting back,” he said. “It feels like a really realistic action movie and a fantasy… at the same time.”
The Olympian gods also play a bigger role this season, with Artemis, Apollo, Hera, and Aphrodite joining the story. Viewers will also meet siblings Nico and Bianca Di Angelo, two fan-favorite characters from the books.
Executive producer Craig Silverstein said Season 3 brings the series’ larger story into focus.
“[The Titan’s Curse is] really where all the final pieces come onto the board related to the Great Prophecy and Kronos. The Titans make their appearance. It’s the book and the season where the larger saga really comes into focus,” Silverstein said.

Disney+ will premiere Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 on Nov. 20. The new season adapts The Titan’s Curse, a pivotal chapter in Riordan’s series that begins bringing the Great Prophecy and the war against Kronos into sharper focus.
