Nara Smith has revealed that her 2-year-old daughter, Whimsy Lou, was diagnosed with cancer.
In an Instagram Reel shared Wednesday, July 1, the 24-year-old content creator opened up about the devastating diagnosis and explained that she and her husband, Lucky Blue Smith, 28, learned about their daughter’s illness “late last year.”
“There is no easy way to say this or to talk about any of this,” Nara began. “But late last year, our daughter Whimsy got diagnosed with cancer.”
She explained that everything started after she noticed something unusual on her daughter and rushed her to the emergency room. Doctors there were unsure what they were seeing, prompting the family to schedule a visit with Whimsy’s pediatrician.
“When we took her into our pediatrician, I just remember him going really quiet and calm, and my heart dropped in that moment,” she said. “I don’t know whether it was my gut telling me something or just a mom’s intuition, but the first thing that I felt was she has cancer.”
The pediatrician urged the couple to immediately take Whimsy to the nearest children’s hospital for additional testing. After undergoing X-rays, ultrasounds and a biopsy, the family received the heartbreaking news.
“They immediately called us and said she had cancer,” Nara said. “They told us it had spread and that she needs to come and start chemo treatments immediately.”
Since then, Nara said connecting with other families facing similar experiences has helped her cope with the emotional weight of her daughter’s diagnosis.
“Throughout all of this, I’ve been on a plethora of forums, social media, also talked to parents and family in the hospital,” she shared. “And all of that combined really brought me a lot of comfort and alleviated the feeling of loneliness for me.”
She said that is one of the main reasons she decided to share her family’s story publicly.
“We wanted to share this to hopefully bring someone else that comfort, or even incentivize you to go get something checked out that you’ve been avoiding,” she explained.
Nara also opened up about how much she has been juggling on top of all of it.
“Processing this and navigating all of this as a family has been really hard,” she said. “A lot of you have probably realized that I’ve been posting a little less, and this is the reason why.”
“Having found all of this out and navigating this while postpartum, also loving and caring for our other kids at home, also being in the hospital with Whimsy a lot, and balancing work on top of that has been really challenging,” she continued. “Finding that balance is something that I struggle with on a daily basis.”
She added that every day looks different for her family.
“Some days are a little easier, some days are really hard. And all I can do is try my best and show up in all those areas in the best way that I can.”

Nara ended the emotional video by explaining that she hopes opening up about her family’s journey will help others who may be facing similar challenges.
“I hope that by sharing this, I can bring someone else a little bit of comfort and make you feel less alone in your journey in whatever way that may be.”
