Tyrese Gibson is celebrating a major moment in his daughter Shayla Gibson’s life.
The actor and singer shared a video from Shayla’s prom night on Instagram on Sunday, showing the teenager posing beside her date before heading to the dance.
“GIBSON HEIR PROM NIGHT,” text across the video read.
Tyrese wore an all white embellished suit for the occasion, while Shayla Gibson stunned in a sparkling champagne colored gown with a thigh high slit. Her date coordinated in a black tuxedo with a velvet bow tie.
Alongside the prom video, he shared a lengthy message about his daughter graduating and preparing for her next chapter.
“#MyShayla changed my life forever….This is my first born, Shayla Gibson… The heir to the Gibson legacy and empire that I’m still building brick by brick,” he wrote.
The Fast & Furious actor also reflected on some of the personal struggles he has faced over the years while raising his daughter.
“If ‘putting it all on the line for your child’ was a person… it would be me,” Tyrese shared. “I stand here today as a survivor of family court, divorce, public judgment, private pain, reputation hits, sleepless nights and every test imaginable… but I never stopped showing up as a PRESENT father. Never.”
Tyrese went on to reveal that Shayla had recently been accepted into college on a full scholarship.
“Her last day of school was 48 hours ago… and my baby just got accepted into college on a FULL RIDE,” he wrote.
He also shared how proud he is watching his daughter succeed academically.
“Her GPA surpassed mine years ago. In many ways, I’m healing parts of my own upbringing by watching my daughters rise higher than I ever did. That’s the goal. That’s generational growth.”
Tyrese closed the post by calling the moment one of the proudest of his life.
“This may honestly be one of the proudest moments of my life since the day you were born,” he wrote. “Thank you Jesus… because I am nothing without you.”
Tyrese shares Shayla with ex-wife Norma Gibson. He is also father to daughter Soraya Lee Gibson, whom he shares with ex-wife Samantha Lee.
