MEENA HARRIS INTRODUCES NEW CHILDREN’S BOOK “MAYA’S BIG QUESTION”

Meena Harris’ book “Kamala and Maya’s Big Idea” introduced readers to Maya. Now, she’s continuing the story with a new title, “Maya’s Big Question,” centered on curiosity and asking bigger questions.

Harris revealed the cover on Instagram and shared what readers can expect from Maya’s next chapter.

“It’s about a little girl named Maya (who you may recognize!) who’s proud of who she is: a curious kid who loves to ask questions. During a class field trip visiting monuments, Maya notices something missing and decides to create her own. You’re probably wondering how a child could build something so big?? It takes creativity and community, and Maya is the right person to take action!”

Speaking with Parents.com, Harris explained that the book is meant to go beyond storytelling.

“The bigger goal—and the way I hope that the book is used as a real tool—is getting kids to question the status quo,” says Meena. “If because of your specific experience or your specific observation, you notice something that you have a unique question around, that is incredibly powerful. Ask all kinds of questions and understand that there’s incredible power in doing that, especially if no one else is asking that same question.”

Harris, who has now released five books, said this project pushed her to build on what she learned from earlier work.

“I took the learnings from the first book and thought about, ‘OK, how do I add nuance to this or keep building?’” says Meena in the interview. “Part of that was getting so much great feedback from educators and teachers and parents around how they were really using my book as a tool. It’s nice to know it’s having the impact that I intended.”

“Maya’s Big Question” is now available to add to your home library.
