Golden Brooks is one proud mom.
The Girlfriends star recently took to Instagram to celebrate a major moment for her daughter, Dakota.

The teen made her acting debut in a short film with Kids in the Spotlight as part of their 2025 Short Film Series and Brooks couldn’t help but gush about the milestone.
“Dakota performed in her first movie short with @kidsinthespotlight for their short film series! So impressed and so proud of all who took part in this amazing project… Dakota, you shined young lady… Keep striving. Keep rising,” the actress wrote. “Everyone who came out to support and give words of encouragement to these young budding artists was just next level!”

Brooks also shared highlights from the Kids in the Spotlight Film Awards, calling the 2025 event “sensational.” The celebration, held in partnership with Paramount Television Studios, spotlighted the creativity of foster youth through film.
“The event was overflowing with phenomenal talent and love, celebrating and amplifying the voices of foster youth and changing lives forever,” she added.
In the comments, actress Jennifer Freeman shared her excitement for Dakota’s big moment, writing, “This is amazing! Congratulations Dakota! So beautiful like your mama.”
The organization itself also responded to Brooks’ post, writing, “You are truly GOLDEN. Huge thanks to you and Dakota for your support and encouragement of these amazing young filmmakers.”
Brooks and her ex-boyfriend, actor D.B. Woodside, welcomed their daughter, Dakota Tao Brooks-Woodside, who turned 16 on September 1st.
To celebrate the occasion, Brooks posted a loving tribute on Instagram, writing, “”Happy birthday to my Dakota Tao Woodside who turns 16 years old today!! I cannot believe how fast time is going by… I know you’re going to cringe at these older videos! My little @tiktok dancer was all about those dances back in the day (meaning four years ago… Lol!)”
She added,”I love you, Dakota… Just me and you…here’s too many more memories, my beautiful girl! (more to come later) #sweet16.”
