Alijah Arenas, the son of former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas and television personality Laura Govan, is currently in a medically induced coma following a serious car accident early Thursday morning in Los Angeles.

According to TMZ Sports, the 18-year-old was driving a Tesla Cybertruck that crashed and was later found heavily damaged on the side of the road.

Emergency crews responded to the scene at approximately 4:55 AM after reports of a “trapped patient,” though all occupants had reportedly exited the vehicle by the time help arrived. The front of the car was reportedly on fire when officials arrived.

Arenas was transported to a nearby hospital in “serious condition” and has since been placed in a medically induced coma due to smoke inhalation, ESPN reports.

His mother, Basketball Wives LA alum Laura Govan, appeared to address the situation on social media shortly after news of the accident broke. “I NEED ALL YOURE [sic] F***EN PRAYERS,” she wrote to her 1.5 million Instagram followers.

Arenas, a five-star recruit and one of the top high school players in the country, committed to the University of Southern California (USC) in January.

He turned down scholarship offers from elite programs including Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, and Louisville. Just this month, he confirmed to TMZ Sports that he had signed a name, image, and likeness (NIL) deal with adidas.

During his senior year at Chatsworth High School in Los Angeles, the Oakland native averaged 31 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.

He was selected to play in the 2025 McDonald’s All-American Game, where he contributed 11 points in the national showcase.

Gilbert Arenas, who was expected to appear on his “Gil’s Arena” podcast Thursday, canceled the episode following the incident.

As of now, further details on Alijah Arenas’ condition have not been made public.
