pHOTOTennis star Naomi Osaka and rapper Cordae have decided to go their separate ways but remain committed to co-parenting their daughter, Shai.
Naomi shared the news of their breakup on social media, posting a message via Instagram story
“Hi everyone, just wanted to say that Cordae and I are no longer in a relationship,” Osaka wrote. “No bad blood at all; he’s a great person and an awesome dad.”
The former couple, who began dating in 2019, welcomed their daughter in July 2023.
About a week ago, Osaka shared a carousel of photos in a now-deleted social media post of she and her little one, showcasing their special bond.
The Grand Slam champion captioned the post, “2024 wrap but it’s pics of me and the cutest girl in the world.”
In a 2023 interview with InStyle Magazine, Osaka revealed that she had a myriad of complications throughout her pregnancy which included testing positive for Group B streptococcus, which is a bacterial infection that can give newborns meningitis or sepsis. The new mother also revealed that she labored for more than 12 hours.
She went on to admit to the outlet that pregnancy is “kind of rough.”
“I don’t think people know how hard pregnancy is; no one really talks about it as much,” she said. “Going into it, you kind of think, ‘Oh, it’s this beautiful journey.’ But it’s kind of rough.”
The talented athlete is back on the court, where on January 5, she played in the final of a WTA tournament in Auckland. During the the tournament, she suffered an abdominal injury, leading to her dropping out of the finals. Yet, knowing the indomitable spirit of Osaka, she will be back on the court better than ever before.
