For over two decades, Wicked has remained one of Broadway’s most beloved and enduring musicals, captivating audiences with its unforgettable score, rich storytelling, and stunning visuals. Based on Gregory Maguire’s bestselling novel, the show offers a fresh, empowering take on the classic Wizard of Oz tale, exploring themes of friendship, identity, and defying expectations. Recently, actress Jodie Turner-Smith took her daughter to the performance saying that the four-year-old “had a lot of questions.”
The 38-year-old stopped by The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon to promote her new series, The Agency. While on set, the actress and talk show host talked about how she’d taken Juno to see Wicked.
“And you took her to go see Wicked? On Broadway, not the movie,” Fallon asked the mother-of-one.
“I did. Listen, I know that she’s a bit young, but I just kind of felt like Wicked is now about to be in the zeitgeist in a whole other way now that Cynthia Erivo undoubtedly has slayed this performance,” Turner-Smith explained. “And I was just like, ‘I just need her to take her the play in before the movie.’”
“She had a lot of questions,” Turner-Smith added.
Fallon then went on to ask Turner-Smith had her daughter ever seen The Wizard of Oz, to which she replied, that she hasn’t.
“She must’ve been like, ‘What is going on?’ Oh my god,” Fallon joked. “She didn’t even see The Wizard of Oz?”
“She’s never seen Wizard of Oz. But I just love Wicked so much, and it’s my favorite musical,” Turner-Smith continued. “And I just love it. I was eager. I was keen. I wasn’t the only one with a 4½-year-old in there.”
Earlier this summer, Turner-Smith appeared on an episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna, saying that motherhood is one of her “favorite things.” In a previous interview with with Glamour Magazine, for her Woman of the Year cover story, British actress, opened up about co-parenting with ex, Joshua Jackson.
“It’s an adjustment period for anyone when they split up with someone because you’re used to being with your child all the time,” Turner-Smith shared with the outlet. “But nobody hands you a manual. Everyone’s trying to figure it out.”
“Each parent has a different life, and especially if the reason why you’re splitting up is because you have different lives, it’s only further complicated by how you’re going to co-parent,” the actress added.
Turner-Smith was married to Dawson’s Creek alum, officially splitting in October 2023. The couple welcomed Juno Rose Diana, to the world in April of 2020.
