Congratulations are in order for NBA legend Carmelo Anthony’s son Kiyan. The talented young athlete is now on the verge of deciding where he will spend the four years after high school as he has had several phenomenal college offers.
As we know, back in August, Kiyan was officially named as New York State’s top high school basketball recruit for the class of 2025. So just what schools are looking to make him a part of their rosters? Well, in a recent interview on the “SloaneKnows: Next” podcast, Kiyan dishes about what schools he will visit and more about the recruitment process.
“Yeah, I have two visits scheduled next month,” the 17-year-old Long Island Lutheran High School student said in his interview. “In September and then one in October. So I got USC and Rutgers next month and I’m trying to go to Ohio State as my last visit.”
The podcast host then went on to ask Kiyan what does an official visit for him look like and he responded, “The first day you might eat with the coaches, be with your family, chill. They take you around the campus, you might watch a football game or a basketball game during the daytime, and then you have, you watch their practice.”
He concluded, “So you watch the basketball team practice, and then you take pictures in a little uniform.”
Originally Kiyan received a total of 21 official offers. He has now narrowed down his list of choices to six: his father’s alma mater, Syracuse, Ohio State, Auburn, Florida, Rutgers, and University of Southern California, (USC).
In a previous interview, upon his retirement with the Associated Press in 2023, Carmelo Anthony expressed that he wished for his son to go even further beyond his own professional legacy.
“People ask what I believe my legacy is. It’s not my feats on the court that come to mind, all the awards or praise. Because my story has always been more than basketball. My legacy, my son … I will forever continue through you. The time has come for you to carry this torch.”
Carmelo Anthony shares his his talented son with actress and TV personality, La La Anthony.
