Happy birthday wishes are in order for the son of Jennifer Hudson and David Otunga. The pair took to social media celebrate David Daniel Otunga Jr.’s 15th birthday.
The 42-year-old EGOT winner posted a sweet message to her son asking her followers to help her wish her son a happy birthday.
“Team Jhud, can yal help wish my kid @d.o.j10 a very happy blest 15th birthday! I can not believe that I got a 15 year old ! God is good ! Happy Birthday , my baby!!!”
Hudson’s ex-partner, and David’s father, actor and retired WWE wrestler, David Otunga, also took to social media to extend heartfelt wishes to his son on his special day. The 44-year-old shared a carousel of images, featuring David Jr.’s cake, and what looks like to be some birthday fun on the basketball court.
“My son’s birthday feels like it’s really my birthday, because on that day 15 years ago, I received the greatest gift of my life! God gave me my best friend. I am so proud of David for many reasons, but I’m most proud of the wonderful man he’s becoming. I love you @d.o.j10 and I’m excited for what this next year holds for you.”
Hudson has been very open about the challenges of raising a young Black man in today’s society.
“Being a mom of a Black son, you have to make him conscious of and aware of certain things—who he is within the world. And there’s so many layers he has to learn! But he’s at an age where he can fully understand it. And he’s so evolved beyond what I could ever imagine,” she said in a previous interview with Real Simple.
Hudson continued, “My son goes to a predominantly white school, and he has giant hair and a whole afro. He loves to walk in there with the big old ’fro and the pick in his hair. And I’m like, ‘Do you realize the statement you’re making? Know that just wearing your hair like that is a statement alone.’”
From where we are sitting, it appears as if both she and Otunga are co-parenting like pros and raising a truly wonderful young man. Happy birthday, DOJ! We hope that this year’s birthday wishes all come true.
