If you remember back in July, KeKe Palmer, in an interview with The Cut, talked in-depth about her postpartum body. Recently, the Nope actress continued the conversation with personal trainer, celebrity Corey Calliet on her podcast and got real about postpartum weight loss.
āI just had the baby and they want me to be this representation of āAs a mom, you can blah, blah, blah!āā¦But also I want to say, like, itās my job. Like letās not get crazy and I donāt want people to think that Iām also setting unrealistic standards ā because I can afford a trainer. I can afford meal prep. I can afford a lot of things and itās expensive, but Iām investing in my career because itās my career to look good,” the new mother said on her Baby, this is Keke Palmer podcast per JustJared.com.
The former Disney star continued, “And not even that, but itās my career choice to have this kind of career that I want to haveā¦I specifically want to be in action. I specifically want to do certain things that would require me [to be fit], you know? So itās like, itās a personal choice. And so I never want to put that on anybody. And thatās big for me. Cause I know that a lot of people look at me and I represent a lot of people in different ways.ā
And just what are those “certain things” that Palmer wants to do? Well, more action roles of course!
“I was 17 and I told you, I said, mom, I really have a dream of one day doing stuff like Will Smith ā I want to be able to do comedy and action. And I was like, āI got to get a trainer!āā¦and I started training and training and training. I was always putting so much pressure on myself and I feel like with Nope, I got a great opportunity to do some action stuff…”
However, the multi-hyphenated entertainer said that although she is on a new journey for herself, she doesn’t want to set “unrealistic body standards” for others because “your journey is your journey.” She even touched on the usage of the popular diabetes drug Ozempic for weight loss.
āSo, this is my thing with the Ozempic. It sucksā¦you know, I get the girls want to get into shape. But I hate that sometimes, you know, Ozempic, from my knowledge, I know itās been made for people that have diabetes. Ever since the girls have been using it to lose weight, the folks with diabetes aināt able to get [it], the prices have gone up.ā
Palmer made sure that she let her fans know that beauty comes in every size, using Lizzo as the perfect example.
āShe loves aesthetics. Sheās sexy. Sheās a fashion girl. Sheās confident. Sheās not somebody that is like, āOkay, yeah, m$#%&*s, Iām overweight. But why did that mean Iām not sexy? Why did that mean I donāt have a great wardrobe? Why did that mean Iām not stylish, et cetera?ā And so I love that because I do think that thereās this negative connotation that if youāre overweight, all of a sudden that is indicative of how you feel about yourself.ā
Palmer is unquestionably doing things right. It seems as if she is nailing her postpartum journey on many levels and setting a mentally and physically healthy example for all women to follow.
