16-YEAR-OLD GRADUATES WITH BACHELOR’S IN BIOLOGY, PURSUES MD AND MBA DEGREES

At just 16 years old, LeAnna Roberts has accomplished what many people can only dream of. On Saturday, she graduated from The University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, summa cum laude, decorated in over 12 honors ropes and tassels.

“I am beyond blessed and thrilled to graduate at 16 with my Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from The University of Alabama. I genuinely couldn’t ask for a stronger support system throughout my journey. Time for the master’s degree! Roll Tide!” said Roberts.

Roberts, who is already looking towards her next degree, will be continuing her education at UA to earn her MBA through the STEM Path.

“I am currently taking graduate level courses and will continue over the summer with plans to graduate with an MBA degree next May.”

Roberts has been an active member of and holds executive positions in multiple honor societies. She has also volunteered at Druid City Hospital and served as a mentor for Al’s Pals and Vision Days programs.

“I have been an Al’s Pals and Vision Days mentor during my two years as an undergraduate student and I am a volunteer at Druid City Hospital,” said Roberts.

Last summer, Roberts had the opportunity to intern at the UAB Kidney Undergraduate Research Experience where she conducted research on the effects of acute kidney injury.

Recently, she collaborated with Dr. Avani Shah, an associate professor in UA’s School of Social Work, to publish an abstract focused on health disparities and literacy in Black Belt communities.

Looking towards the future, Roberts has her sights set on attending medical school and becoming a surgeon. She is currently preparing to take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) and plans to apply to programs throughout the country.

“I’m looking into medical schools in the southeast but will be applying to programs throughout the country. I want to become a surgeon to close the gaps in health care for so many, both nationally and internationally,” she said.
