Singing in front of an audience for some can be extremely nerve-racking. Singing in front of famed hard-nosed judge Simon Cowell must be terrifying. But fifteen-year-old Sarah Ikumu rose to the challenge and aced it as she got the golden buzzer from none other than Cowell himself, to advance to the semi-final round of Britain’s Got Talent.
The talented teen, after being asked to audition for the show when she was scouted at a local event, wowed the judges and audience, receiving a standing ovation, with her powerful rendition of Jennifer Hudson’s Dreamgirls hit “And I Am Telling You”. At first, Cowell was worried that the teen would not be able to deliver on a song with such strong vocals required for a flawless performance, but she proved him wrong.
“Look Sarah,” Cowell started. “I’ve heard this song a lot and it started off really well. I thought ‘This girl’s great’. And then, it’s like you became possessed half way through. It was quite incredible. And for someone your age to stand on the stage with all these nerves and all this pressure, to absolutely-not just to nail this song, but you made it your song.”
