The Smiths were one of many star families to attend the ‘Dear Mama’ VH1 filming event on Tuesday. Taping for the television special was held at St. Bartholomew’s Church in New York City, and the theme of the evening was honor.
Willow and Jaden thanked their mom, Jada Pinkett Smith, for her unconditional love and sacrifices during the ceremony. They were joined by a myriad of other celebrities who also made kind gestures towards their mothers.
The idea behind the ‘Dear Mama’ event is recognition. “We are excited to shine the spotlight on the influential and inspiring women behind some of our favorite celebrities, their Moms,” says VH1 EVP/Deputy General Manager Amy Doyle. “Our ’Dear Mama’ special event gives our famous friends the stage to salute and thank their moms with their own tributes full of surprises, laughter, and love.”
Shakim Compere, founder of Flavor Unit, also comments, “Every story we’ve told, every show we produced, every film we’ve been a part of wouldn’t be possible without our mothers. So how could we not do a tribute to them?”
