June Ambrose and Summer Chamblin celebrated the many accomplishments of African American women at this year’s ‘Black Girls Rock!’ Awards ceremony. The celebrity stylist and her daughter were two of many stars to attend the event at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark on Saturday.
Both June and Summer were dressed to impress, with green being their theme color. June wore a beautiful black dress with green and white stripes at the top and bottom that coordinated perfectly with the stylist’s gold shoes. Summer went for the semi-casual look of wearing white jeans with a green coat. The youngster was in total sync with her mom, and accessorized her outfit with black shoes and purse.
This year’s ‘Black Girls Rock!’ event was an incredible success with notables such as Michelle Obama and Jada Pinkett-Smith in attendance. Jada Pinkett-Smith recognized all of the African American women who served as trailblazers throughout history. Meanwhile, First Lady Michelle Obama emphasized the importance of education by telling attendees that she would not be able to enjoy her current lifestyle without the skills that she learned at Princeton University.
Michelle and Jada’s success stories are, in many respects, what BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Inc., is about. Since 2006, the non-profit organization has sought ways to empower young girls and women to positively impact the world. The institution focuses on the arts, and encourages girls between the ages of 12 to 17 to release the creativity that is within them.
The 2015 ‘Black Girls Rock!’ awards ceremony will air on BET on Sunday, April 5, 2015. June Ambrose and husband Marc Chamblin have two kids together.
