Did you know that Ellen Pompeo was expecting a child? Neither did we! The actress recently welcomed a baby girl named Sienna May Ivery by way of surrogate.
Ellen shared a picture of her precious 2-month-old on Thursday. “Sienna May Ivery welcome to the world,” tweeted Pompeo. “We love you more than words can say.”
The actress later spoke with Jimmy Kimmel about her newborn and the surrogate process. “I was present for the insemination. I held [the surrogate’s] hand,” said Ellen. She further explained, “Chris Ivery has to do what he has to do and provide, and then I had to provide something as well. You have to retrieve the egg. And then they put it together in a dish, the lab technicians, and then they make the embryo. Then they insert the embryo into the woman who will carry the child.”
The last time we heard from Ellen was when she was talking about her eldest daughter, Stella, and her fascination with Los Angeles ‘Lakers’ cheerleaders. “She was really enamored with the cheerleaders because they wear those sparkly costumes,” said Pompeo. “So she thought they were princesses and she kept saying , ‘Mama look at the princesses.'”
Ellen and husband Chris Ivery have two kids together.
