Dwight Howard’s ex Tiffany Render went to court this week seeking emergency custody of their daughter, Layla.
In court documents obtained by Us Weekly, Render said Layla has repeatedly told her she feels “fearful” and “distressed” when she is at her father’s home.

Render also said the situation has drawn attention from the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFACS).
“Layla was recently admitted to a mental facility after expressing thoughts of harming herself and has repeatedly stated that she feels fearful and emotionally distressed about returning to her father’s home which she believes contributed to her crisis,” Render claimed in the custody modification.
As part of her filing, Render also submitted an affidavit signed by Layla stating that her mother did not pressure, encourage, or promise her anything related to the request.
The court denied the motion on March 17, finding it did not qualitfy as an emergency. The response also noted that key information, including the current custody order, was not included.
The judge also said it was not clear whether the court had jurisdiction based on what was provided. The matter could be reviewed again if additional documentation is submitted.

The request comes as Howard’s personal life has made headlines in recent weeks.
Earlier this month, his estranged wife Amber Luciani made claims during an Instagram Live, alleging he had a drug issue and that Child Protective Services removed his daughter from their home.
Howard later denied the allegation on social media and told followers not to believe everything they see online.
He also filed for divorce from Luciani on March 9. The filing marks the third attempt to end their marriage within the past year. Both sides dismissed previous filings.
Neither Howard nor Render has publicly commented on the court’s decision.
