Halle Berry is one proud mom! The Oscar-winning actress took to Instagram to celebrate her daughter Nahla‘s early college acceptance.

“Congratulations to my sweet Angel Nahla for her early college acceptance!” the 59-year-old, wrote on her Instagram Stories. The post featured a pink funfetti cake decorated with the words “You did it Nahla!!” in white icing, tucked inside a box that read, “Today is the sweetest day.”
The actress shares 17-year-old Nahla with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry and is also mom to 12-year-old son Maceo-Robert, whom she shares with ex-husband Olivier Martinez. The Moonfall actress is currently in a relationship with musician Van Hunt, who revealed earlier this year that he’d proposed, though Berry has yet to officially say yes.
During a June appearance on Today with Jenna & Friends, the mother-of-two opened up about her daughter’s plans and her hopes for the next chapter. “She’s 17. She’s going to a college summer program, the college that she’s hoping to go to next year,” she told host Jenna Bush Hager. “She’s going away this year to the college summer program.”
When Hager asked if it felt strange to see her daughter preparing to leave home, Halle admitted she was more excited than sad. “It is, but I’m not one of these moms that feels like, ‘Oh, she’s leaving.’ Yes, will I worry? Of course. But am I excited for her to start her life and figure out who she’s gonna be? Absolutely,” she said. “I’m dying to see who she’s gonna be and what she’s gonna do and what she’ll discover.”
Halle also spoke candidly about balancing motherhood with her career, emphasizing the importance of maintaining identity beyond parenthood. “We can still be seen as good mothers, there for our children, but also, we have to be there for ourselves because these kids will grow up and move on and if we haven’t maintained a life for ourselves, then what happens?” she explained.
She continued, “What happens when our loves leave the house? What have we built for ourselves? So I think it’s really important to keep your love life, keep your career, keep the things that make you you, your hobbies, your passions, whatever it is. Keep those alive while you’re also being a mom.”

While she tends to keep her children’s lives private, Berry often expresses how deeply motherhood grounds her. During her People’s Icon Award acceptance speech in 2021, she thanked Nahla and Maceo for their patience and love.
“My two little kids, they have to lose so much time with their mommy because I get to go work and do what I love, so thank you Nahla, thank you Maceo — I hope you find something in life that you can love and you can do with as much vigor and as much zest as I do what I do. I love you guys,” she said.
