JOHN SINGLETON’S SON SEVEN STEALS THE SHOW AT SHEEN AWARDS WITH ADORABLE REQUEST

John Singleton’s youngest son, Seven John Singleton, stole the show at the 2025 Sheen Magazine Awards last night.

“My name is seven John Singleton and I’m honored to accept this award on my dad’s behalf. I won’t be here for long so I just want to say thank you Sheen for allowing me to have this opportunity and if you see my mom, tell her to let me watch boys in the hood. I really want to watch that movie and right now she is saying no.”

On Instagram, Seven explained what the moment meant to him:

“Accepting this award wasn’t just about honoring my father—it was about showing the world his light still shines through me. I may be young, but I know the weight of the name I carry. Dad, this one’s for you. @sheenmagazine #SheenAwards #LegacyStrong #johnsingletonforever #johnsingletonmovies Forever.”

He later added in another post, “I’m just his kid… but this night I felt his greatness. This one’s for you, Dad. Thank you [Sheen Magazine]. #ProudSonMoment #johnsingletonlegacy”

He may be in elementary school, but Seven is already making a name for himself. He recently published his first book, Angel 7 and the Devil Overlord Fairytales, and has appeared on BET’s Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living, ABC’s Abbott Elementary, and FX’s Snowfall.

The Sheen Awards, hosted by Gary with Da Tea and Tambra Cherie, celebrated pioneers and today’s trailblazers making an impact in film, music, business and beyond.

John Singleton, who died in 2019, made history with Boyz n the Hood as the first Black filmmaker and youngest director ever nominated for an Oscar. He later directed fan favorites like Poetic Justice, Higher Learning, and Baby Boy.
