Rada Darling is getting real about postpartum life.
The fiancée of comedian Michael Blackson took to Instagram to share how she’s been feeling since giving birth to their son, Mikey, two months ago.
“I hide a lot with my smile. I’ll have to admit postpartum is tough… you have good days and bad days,” Rada wrote alongside photos of herself with baby Mikey. “While I thought I had all the support in the world, I find myself walking alone depending on my little man. It’s just you and I, little one. 🖤 Family 🖤”
The vulnerable post sparked reactions online, prompting Rada to follow up with a second message addressing some of the backlash.
“I’m not sure why my previous postpartum post is construed as it being about Mike,” she wrote. “First of all, as women we are supposed to stick together and support one another. I was vulnerable and sharing a moment.”
Rada went on to clarify that her message was not a criticism of Blackson, but a personal reflection on her own mental health.
“ I was surprised that someone as strong as I am could experience it hence the post. “When I say ‘it’s just you and I,’ I’m speaking about my support system. We are different generations, so they can never understand what postpartum is because in my culture, we are not to show emotions.”
She reassured her followers that she is doing well, explaining, “It’s just baby blues and I know it’s temporary. It is rare that I feel it, but when I do, it sucks.”
Rada also gave credit to her fiancé, writing, “For the record, @michaelblackson is a great father.”
Blackson and Rada welcomed their son Mikey in June. At the time, the comedian shared the happy news on Instagram with a sweet video of their newborn and the caption, “Happiest day of my life and no DNA needed lol. Meet lil Mikey.”
Mikey is Blackson’s fourth child. He also has a 26-year-old son, Michael Jr., and 17-year-old twins, Niko and Noah, from previous relationships.
