Viola Davis had a lot to celebrate yesterday as her daughter Genesis Tennon turned 15.
To mark the special day, the actress shared a family photo on Instagram featuring herself, husband Julius Tennon, and birthday girl all smiles together.
“And just like that…..our baby is 15. Love you to the moon G…..to the moon……,” she wrote in the caption.
The birthday post comes just months after Viola shared a touching message for Mother’s Day, expressing gratitude to all women who nurture and care for others. She also gave a personal shout-out to her daughter.
“To all who are “mothering,” sacrificing, pouring in, believing, loving… to those who’ve lost a mom, are caregiving for one, or trying to become one—I’m lifting you up. Sending fierce, protected love. To my G—it is an honor to be your mother,” she wrote at the time.
Davis and Tennon adopted Genesis in 2011. Reflecting on that decision, the actress previously told People that becoming a mother brought a new sense of purpose to her life.
“I wanted my life to mean and be something deeper. That’s when the urge came, and the urge was just very, very, very, strong. So I have a kid now, and she is just the light of our lives.”
Tennon was already a father of two by the time he met Davis, bringing valuable parenting experience to their family dynamic.
“I came into a relationship where he already had children and grandchildren and raised his kids on his own, so he’s tough—he toes the line, but in a very loving way,” she continued. “He holds her accountable. Me, not so much—I’m the softie. Really, entitlement. Listen, there are poor kids who are entitled. So I pray.”
The couple first met on set in 1999 and wed in 2003. Davis later revealed that they actually got married twice—once in their condo with just 15 guests, and again three months later in Rhode Island with a larger celebration.
