Sean “Diddy” Combs’ kids and mother appeared in good spirits as they exited Manhattan’s Federal Court on Tuesday, July 2, following the conclusion of his seven-week federal trial.
Photos show Combs’ mother, Janice Combs, waving alongside her grandchildren and other family members after the jury delivered a mixed verdict.
Jurors found Combs not guilty of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges. However, they convicted him on two lesser counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. One charge involved his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, while the other involved a woman who testified under the name “Jane.”
The jury reached its decision more than 14 hours after beginning deliberations on Monday.
Inside the courtroom, Combs showed signs of relief. After the verdict was confirmed and the judge addressed the jury, Combs turned to his family and said, “I’m coming home, baby! I’m coming home!”
He raised his hands in a praying gesture and later kneeled on the floor. His attorneys hugged one another as supporters in the gallery erupted into applause. U.S. Marshals then escorted him out.
Each conviction carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years. Prosecutor Maurene Ryan Comey said the government plans to pursue “significant incarceration,” while Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifilo, argued that his client should be released immediately.
“He should be released on appropriate conditions… He should be able to return to his home,” Agnifilo stated.
Agnifilo said Combs would be willing to put up a $1 million cash bond. “He has been acquitted of very serious charges,” he said. “It is my proposal he be permitted to walk out of the courtroom.”
However, the prosecution opposed any release. Comey cited what she described as a “litany of crimes” Combs committed while in custody and said he has shown “no respect” for the law.
