Earlier this year, Mattel surprised the world with the release of the Aaliyah Barbie doll, which of course, sold out immediately. Well, the toy giant is doing it again, and paying homage to another talented musician, Alicia Keys. Mattel has just released the Alicia Keys “She is the Music” Barbie doll, which is unquestionably a must-add to your collection!
“She is the music. For the Barbie 2025 Career of the Year spotlighting Women in Music, Barbie is celebrating women who are breaking barriers in the industry, and uplifting the next generation of girls in music,” Mattel shared a post, announcing the new doll, delving further into the purpose behind it.
“Founded by award-winning artist, producer, singer and songwriter Alicia Keys, and her award-winning recording and mix engineer, Ann Mincieli, @SheIsTheMusic is a nonprofit organization with the mission to increase the number of women working in music – songwriters, engineers, producers, artists and industry professionals – and to develop the next generation of women in music. Programs include all-female songwriting camps, mentorship and education initiatives, and the largest global database of women in music.”
In addition to releasing the dolls for sale, The Barbie Dream Gap Project, will auction off the two dolls, on March 2, with all proceeds benefiting She Is The Music.
The native New Yorker, whose whose real name is Alicia Augello Cook, is a classically trained pianist, having started writing songs at the age of 12 and was signed to Columbia Records at 15. Since then, Keys has captured the hearts of music fans world-wide.
Recently, the Grammy Award-winning musician and actress attended the 67th Annual Grammy Award, taking home Grammy Awards for the Best Musical Theater Album, in addition to receiving the prestigious Dr. Dre Global Impact Award.
The 44-year-old is married to rapper and producer, Swizz Beatz. The couple share two children: Egypt Daoud, 14, and Genesis Ali, 10.
