Nick Cannon is making headlines once again with his candid thoughts on fatherhood.
In a recent conversation with Dr. Umar, Cannon shared that he believes he is a “fully present” father despite having 11 children with different women across multiple households.
When asked if he is comfortable knowing that his seven sons may follow his example into future generations, he didn’t hesitate. “Yeah,” he said confidently.
“Now, you might have had me stumped if you would’ve asked me about my five daughters. But my seven sons to function from the principles in which I operate [romantically]? Absolutely,” he said.
While some may view his family dynamics as unconventional, Cannon remains unapologetic about his approach. He argued that his lifestyle doesn’t have to be seen as a “kingdom of dysfunction” just because society may judge it.
Nick believes that being a father isn’t just about being in a traditional household or romantic relationship, but about being present in his children’s lives, no matter the structure.
“I’m fully present in all of my households,” Cannon stated, addressing the common criticism of fathers who live in separate homes from their children.
He emphasized that being a “high-functioning father” means being involved in his children’s lives on multiple levels—whether that’s through coaching, teaching, or setting an example.
“When we talk about presence and fathers being present and what they can and cannot do, I will hold myself up to anyone, because my goal and my ability is to be that present.”
However, Nick admitted that his unconventional situation does come with obstacles, just like any family structure.
“Every household has obstacles,” he explained, noting that traditional families also face challenges, like having an alcoholic parent. He also acknowledged that, while he’s emotionally unavailable at times, he’s doing his best to show love and care to the mothers of his children.
NicK Cannon is a proud father of 12 kids. Tragically, he lost his son Zen to brain cancer at just five months old in December 2021.
