The highly anticipated movie adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Wicked is captivating audiences with its star-studded cast, stunning visuals, and timeless story. Among the standout performers is 10-year-old Karis Musongole, who portrays young Elphaba.
In a recent interview with the BBC, Karis, who hails from Manchester, England, shared her excitement about working alongside Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
“It was amazing to see so many people that were really excited for me and really kind,” Karis told BBC Radio Manchester at the London movie premiere.
“To be a part of Wicked means a lot to me. “It’s just amazing. The set is beautiful, and the people are beautiful.”
She also told the outlet that she really enjoyed portraying young Elphaba, who she described as “very smart and humble, but because she’s green-skinned, she gets picked on”.
Karis added that being a part of the project and being on set “felt like I was in a fairytale”.
As if things couldn’t get any better, another layer of excitement and memories for Karis on this project was that she was joined on the film by her best friend, nine-year-old Harriet Ryan, who played a munchkin in the movie.
“I’m really happy that I got to do this with my best friend. It’s been really exciting to share the experience together,” she said during interview rounds.
She adde, “Hattie’s an amazing person to work with and it’s been really nice to share this experience with her.”
If you are unfamiliar with the premise of Wicked, the movie is a prequel story of The Wizard of Oz. According to the BBC, the movie tells the story of Elphaba and Glinda, two student witches who will become the Land of Oz’s Wicked Witch of the West and Good Witch of the North.
Wicked is now playing in theaters nationwide.
