Lil Novi, the 15-year-old son of rap icon Lil Wayne and singer Nivea, is carving his own path in music.
Fresh off the release of his mixtape B4 The albVm, Novi is making waves not just for his new music but also for his take on his legendary father’s career.
In a recent interview on the TRSH channel on YouTube, Novi opened up about growing up with a superstar dad and shared what he believes is Lil Wayne’s greatest album.
When asked if he agrees with the general consensus that his father is one of hip-hop’s all-time greats, Novi didn’t hesitate. “For surely I agree.” “But I just be like, yeah that shit cool. I be like, yeah that [stuff] hard.”
While he’s grown accustomed to people being fascinated by his father’s career, Novi doesn’t let it overwhelm him. “Some kids, they be like, ‘Oh that’s crazy. How does it feel to wake up every day?’” “I be like, bro, it’s regular. I’m a human. I’m just like y’all.”
When it came to naming his favorite Lil Wayne albums, Novi admitted he’s more into his dad’s newer releases.
“I listen to his music. I listen to, like, kind of like his newer music. I don’t really listen to his old stuff. But I’ll say his top one album, I’ll say the newest Carter. I think it’s Carter V. But yeah, that [stuff] was hard. That [stuff] was great.”
Novi, real name Neal Carter, also reflected on the moment that sparked his passion for music, Novi shared how seeing his father perform live for the first time left him in awe.
“I was just stuck. I was just froze,” he recalled. “That’s like my first memory I had to be like no older than like six or five or like seven.”
