R&B icon Monica and her daughter Laiyah Brown made a stunning appearance at the Black Excellence Brunch in Atlanta on November 3, 2024.
Hosted by Black Lives Matter and Black Girls Rock!, the annual event celebrates the achievements of Black women across various industries.
Monica took to Instagram to share snapshots that showcased her chic hot pink suit that perfectly complemented Laiyah’s double-breasted plaid tweed blazer and skirt.
In her Instagram post, she expressed her gratitude for the honor, writing, “Thank You for Honoring Me. The room was filled with the extraordinary Presence of GOD… His Love is No Ordinary Love… It heals, protects, and provides… God’s unchanging hand & My Mother’s Prayers have kept me.”
Laiyah also took to her Instagram stories to show her pride and admiration for her mom. She wrote, “Congratulations, mom.”
During the brunch, Monica participated in a fireside chat with founder Trell Thomas, where she discussed her relationship with producer and manager Anthony “Ant” Wilson.
She reflected on how her childhood experiences have shaped her approach to love and family, saying, “Nothing happens for nothing. Because, here I am, blended family, co-parenting with Anthony and enjoying life and just having somebody that’s there for me…but who knew what my childhood was, was preparing me for what my life would be.”
She went on to discuss her lng-standing friendship with Anthony, saying, “We were friends for 14 years first. During that time, we collaborated and worked together, but he always made a point to check on me. That’s something people rarely do unless they want something in return.”
The musician is mom to daughter Laiyah, 10, whom she shares with ex Shannon Brown, and sons Romelo, 16, and Rodney, 18, with ex Rodney “Rocko” Hill. She is also a bonus mom to Hill’s son Ramone, 28. Ant, for his part, has a daughter named Haley.
