Donald Glover may be a multi-talented star, but when it comes to his kids, he’s hesitant about them following his path into showbiz.
In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, opened up about his son Legend, calling him a natural “performer” but revealed he’s keen to steer him away from the music industry.
Despite Legend’s undeniable talent, Glover admitted, “In a perfect world” none of my kids would follow in his footsteps.
Glover goes on to say in his interview that Legend has really good musicality and is a “performer” at heart.
“In the middle of bringing it down the field, he grabbed his chest and falls to the ground, pretending he’s dying,” the father-of-three shared with the outlet. “I remember thinking, ‘Oh, he’s a performer.’ He’s not going to be Messi. He’s an artist on some level, he values experience.”
Although Glover really isn’t pushing for his children to become musicians, he did allow Legend to join him on his latest project. The Mr. & Mrs. Smith actor said that his son has “really good pitch” and he has “always been interested in what I was doing.”
“He has really good pitch, and he was always interested in what I was doing,” the “Can You Feel Me” singer commented. “In a perfect world, I wouldn’t have my kids in the business.”
Glover continued, “I don’t love the industry, it does something to people…. So it was hard, but he’s really good and I was super proud of him. I wanted to share that joy with people — which is scary, because in general, when a large group of people sees something beautiful, they want to destroy it.”
In addition to Legend, the “This Is America” singer also shares two other children: Drake and Donald Glover III with his wife, Michelle White.
