If you remember, in July of this year, Chrissy Teigen revealed in a post on social media that her eldest son, six-year-old Miles had been diagnosed with Type I diabetes. Recently, the mother-of-four shared an adorable photo of Miles wearing his glucose monitor.
In a carousel of images, the Cravings cookbook author shared a snap of herself hugging her son. Fans can get a prominent view of the monitor in Miles’ left arm. In addition to she and Miles’ picture, the the 38-year-old also shared a kaleidoscope of images that also included her other three children, eating, painting, enjoying some son, and so on.
Teigen captioned the post, “busy 🐝🐝🐝s!!!! ready for fall weather, please lord!!”
The post that sparked the Type I diabetes conversation was the one pictured above. Fans saw Miles’ arm at the 2024 Paris Olympics and made comments and had questions.
Teigen took the opportunity to share the news with fans writing, “Miles had his arm up, and soooo many of you reached out to say the most beautiful and incredible words I have ever witnessed on this platform. You noticed his type-1 diabetes monitor and extended so much love and encouragement in every way possible. I was, and am, so blown away by the kindness of this community, already.”
Teigen continued to explain to fans at the time that Miles’ diagnosis came after he was hospitalized for a different reason and doctors found irregularities in his blood work.
“After more testing, we learned he is in the ‘honeymoon period’ of a lifetime of T1,” Teigen said. “Last night we gave him his first shot of insulin and here we go! A different, new world for us and we are certainly learning so much on the fly.”
According to the National Institutes of Health, “Black youth with type 1 diabetes (T1D) are at heightened risk for suboptimal glycemic control, higher rates of hospital admissions for diabetic ketoacidosis, and early mortality.”
The NIH, also found that Black people in general have a higher incidence of T1D than other races. Per a research study, they concluded that, “the chance of developed diabetes was significantly higher for black adults than for white adults (about 66 more cases of diabetes per 1,000 people). The greatest difference was between black women and white women.”
Chrissy Teigen shares her four children with EGOT-winner, John Legend. In addition to Miles, the pair are also parents to: Luna, 8, Wren Alexander, 14 months, and Esti Maxine, 19 months.
