When you are a parent of multiple children, it is inevitable that they will tend to prefer one parent over the other. In the case of John Legend and wife, Chrissy Teigen, Legend admits that Teigen has him beat, 3 to 1. In an exclusive interview with People Magazine, Legend jokes about which one of his four kids prefers him over his wife.
“Chrissy’s everyone’s favorite I think, except I might have Esti,” the 45-year-old father told the outlet. “I think because she’s at this space where she sees me leave now, and when I come back home, she’s super clingy and she literally just wants to hug my leg and make sure I don’t leave her.”
“So I think because I leave more, she’s more attached to me when I come home,” he joked, “I have one out of four.”
The 38-year-old model and cookbook author shares four children in total with the legendary EGOT-winner. The couple are parents to daughters Luna, 8, and Esti, 19 months, and sons Miles, 6, and Wren, 14 months.
Last month, Legend released his first single, “L-O-V-E,” from his first children’s album, “My Favorite Dream.” The track features some very special guests: Teigen and their kids, Luna and Miles. In addition to lending her voice to the project, 8-year-old Luna also designed the cover art for the single.
“My Favorite Dream” is a collection of “sing-alongs and lullabies for children and families.” The project features nine original songs by Legend, alongside three covers of Fisher-Price tunes and three bonus tracks.
The full EP, just in case you missed it, is already out and climbing up the charts, hitting number two, only to be bested by, “Baby Shark”.
So, just what was Legend’s inspiration for this new project? Well, his children of course.
The “All of Me” singer wrote in a caption on Instagram that, “… This album has been a true labor of love. It’s completely inspired by my wife and our babies, the family tree we’re all a part of and are continuing to grow.”
He continued, “I want our babies AND yours to find joy and inspiration and comfort from this music. I hope it helps them fall in love with music and helps them cope with all the worries and challenges they may have. I hope the spirit of LOVE at the center of the album is contagious and palpable. And, when it’s time, I hope it helps them FALL ASLEEP (please!) and dream all their favorite dreams.”
