Serena Williams is taking a trip down memory lane as she her daughter Adira turns one today. Taking to Instagram on Thursday, the tennis star shared photos from a never-before-seen maternity photos from her 2023 pregnancy.
In one shot, Williams poses amidst a bed of flowers, dressed in a sheer pink gown that highlights her baby bump.
“A year ago today – August 15th – I gave birth to my second baby girl, Adira River Ohanian. She is a true light. Here’s a peek inside my maternity shoot,” she captioned.

Williams also took the opportunity to explain the meaning behind Adira’s name.
“Adira is a girl’s name of Hebrew origin and means ‘mighty,’ ‘strong,’ and ‘majestic.’ The elegant name is popular in many cultures around the world. Adira is the feminine form of the classic name Adir. It is a Biblical name, meaning ‘Strong One.’”
In the comments, Ohanian marveled at how quickly their daughter has grown, writing, “She’s ONE! How did that happen so fast.”
Serena Williams recently opened up about how parenting is with her second baby. “I think [the] second time around is — I’m a little but more like, you know, if Adira falls, I don’t die like with Olympia,” she said. “Now I’m like, ‘Oh, she’s tough, she’ll be fine.’ And she is tough.”
While Serena is focused on getting back into shape post-pregnancy, she is equally committed to promoting body positivity among her children. Earlier this year, she emphasized the importance of self-love and positivity, telling ET, “For me, it’s super important for them to love who they are and whatever they look like.”
She continued, “I also foster that positivity by encouraging them to give others compliments, especially other girls compliments. So if I see a girl in their class, I’m like, ‘Oh, she looks pretty, right?’ She’s like, ‘Yeah, I like her hair.’ I’m like, ‘I like her hair, too.'”
