Hamby, who currently plays for the Los Angeles Sparks, has filed a federal lawsuit claiming she was subjected to ongoing intimidation and discrimination, culminating in her trade to the Sparks in January 2023.

According to her law firm, Hamby faced mistreatment after disclosing her pregnancy to Aces’ coach Becky Hammon and team management.

The lawsuit alleges that following her announcement, both publicly at the championship parade and internally, she was ordered to vacate her team-provided housing and experienced changes in the team’s support, including backing out of tuition payments.

An official WNBA investigation into the matter led to Coach Hammon being suspended for two games for violating the team’s “respect in the workplace” policies. However, Dearica felt that the league’s response was insufficient, prompting her to seek justice through the court system.

She had previously expressed her frustrations on social media, highlighting the disparity between the support she was promised and the treatment she received.

The WNBA star posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, “Imagine expressing your fears as a woman and being pregnant in this profession/world…. Then to be reassured that you were supported.. and your back was “had”…. only to then be used against you. Lmao”

The 30-year-old mother of two—daughter Amaya Marie from a previous relationship and son Legend Maree Scandrick, born in March 2023—has not disclosed the amount of damages she is seeking.
