Today is a special day for Rihanna and A$AP Rocky as they celebrate their son Riot Rose Mayers’ first birthday.
“HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY TO MY 2ND BORN SON RIOT ROSE MAYERS,” A$AP shared on Instagram alongside a series of photos.
Born on August 1, 2023, at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Riot is the second child of the couple, joining his older brother, RZA Athelston Mayers.
Rihanna first announced her pregnancy in a memorable way during her 2023 Super Bowl halftime show. The reveal came about due to a wardrobe malfunction that put her baby bump on full display.
“I did what I had to do, right? My jumper couldn’t zip up,” she told “Access Hollywood” in December 2023
Riot, like his parents and brother, carries on the family tradition of having an “R” name.
While the couple hasn’t shared the meaning behind Riot’s name, some speculate the name might be a nod to A$AP Rocky’s song “Riot,” released earlier in 2023. Others see it as a continuation of the family’s “R” theme, with names like Robyn Rihanna Fenty and Rakim Athelaston Mayers adding to the tradition.
The world got its first glimpse of Riot in September 2023, and according to Rihanna, he has grown significantly since then.
“Riot is actually in all of RZA’s 1-year-old clothes already. He’s only 6 months,” she shared in an April 2024 conversation with Interview Magazine.
During the same interview, Rihanna praised A$AP Rocky as a partner and father. “When someone sees you completely, and believes in you, and thinks you’re worthy of being the mother of their kids, it’s a great feeling,” she told Interview, adding, “I felt the same about him. I knew he would be a great dad.”
As the couple celebrates Riot’s first year, thoughts of expanding their family are never far off.
The pair have expressed a desire for more children, with Rihanna saying recently that she wanted as many kids “as many as god wants me to have.”
She explained, “I don’t know what god wants, but I would go for more than two. I would try for my girl. But of course if it’s another boy, it’s another boy.”
