Sudanese-Australian model Adut Akech Bior is pregnant!
The 24-year-old is expecting her first child with her high school sweetheart turned fiancé, Samuel Elkhier.
In a recent interview with Vogue, Akech shares that she has always envisioned becoming a young mom like her own mother, who had her when she was just 20.
“I always said I wanted to be a young mom because I love the idea of growing up with your kids,” she says. “The age difference plays a huge role in how close we are.”
As she navigates the ups and downs of her pregnancy, Akech is a mix of excitement and impatience.
“I’m good. I’m excited. I can’t wait. I’m like—can they just come already? I’m kind of over it and I’m just halfway.”
She humorously adds, “Why does it feel like there’s a brick sitting on the top of my vagina? I’m so sorry for my language,” she says, laughing.
With about 10 weeks left in her pregnancy, Akech is both amazed and amused by the changes in her body. She jokingly describes her waddling and marvels at the strength and resilience of women, noting, “I don’t think men could ever.”
Looking ahead, Akech hopes to teach her kids the value of hard work and the importance of not taking material possessions for granted.
“I just want to teach my kids what’s valuable. And what’s not,” she adds, before pausing. “Just to be a kind, decent human being.”
Akech’s own upbringing has shaped her values; she remembers her modest beginnings and is determined to pass on those lessons to her children
“When you don’t come from much, you don’t really value the material stuff,” she says. “I could have easily gotten carried away with the life that I now live. But I think I’ve always just in the back of my head: Remember where you came from,” she says. “If I can take care of my family and take care of myself, that’s it, I’m happy.”
